While there is much to admire about the complexities of the Ladoire Black Widow, the Frédéric Jouvenot Inti and the Cyrus Klepcys, sometimes it comes as a blessed relief simply to gaze upon the face of a watch that gives you the time the old fashioned way with classic, uncomplicated design. After all, life is complicated enough without having to pore through a Swiss-English PDF to learn how to read your watch.
Carl F. Bucherer is an international independent Swiss watch brand with over 90 years of experience in creating high-quality watches. Their latest collection is the Manero Auto Date range which is elegant simplicity itself.
The Manero range harks back to the 60s when watches were crisp, clean, uncluttered and with smaller more discreet dials.
Of course this design criteria flies in the face of the big shiny watch brigade who love a half acre of watch reclaiming its way out of not just the shirt cuff but also the jacket.
Instead the Manero collection, designed to offer beauty and unpretentious refinement, features all the essentials at a glance: the current time, and the date at 3 o’clock. The watch has a diameter of just 38 modest millimetres and incorporates the CFB 1965 automatic movement.
In addition to the striking Dauphine hands, the dial has gold-coloured wedge-shaped indices. The final aesthetic is the high-quality 18 K rose gold bracelet, or Louisiana alligator leather strap available in brown or black.
It would be a dull old world if all watches were made this way, but it’s essential that such simplicity and symmetry of design is still available.
