The Cyrus Klepcys for Only Watch Charity Auction

The luxury watch industry may be competitive and extremely costly, but it is also full of generosity.

The generous nature of the watch industry will be on display in the next couple of months as 40 of the top watch brands in the world have donated some gasp inducing timepieces for the Only Watch international charity auction on September 23rd in Monaco.

All proceeds from the auction will go towards supporting research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a highly debilitating neuromuscular disease that affects children, mainly boys.

The Cyrus Klepcys Pièce unique

The watch was in development for three years and has worldwide patented functions and design. It’s the brainchild of Jean-François Mojon, voted the best ‘conceptualiser/watchmaker’ at the Grand Prix de l’horlogerie de Genève, in November 2010.

Position of the moon

The Klepcys functions with a feature known as ‘face of the moon’, and is said to be the only watch in the world which is capable of identifying the exact position of the moon.

A 3 dimensional golden lunar-like ball is incorporated into the timepiece and it moves with the exact rotation of the moon. The Klepcys also has 456 components and a time display that moves on an axis with a retrograde hour function, day/night (white/red) indication.

The main dial is an unmissable 48mm in diameter and made in 18-carat gold. The case back is also made of 18-carat gold, and is an exact copy of a 2,500 year old coin. The original coin is not up for grabs, it’s the property of Cyrus watches.

Monaco colours

Like some of the other Only Watch charity auction watches which will be making an appearance at the international charity watch auction on September 23rd, the Klepcys watch includes a red and white nod towards the Monaco flag colours. It employs a colour scheme of red and white for the hours, the logo and the disc for seconds.

The number 11 is also in red to indicate the year of the Only Watch auction. The back of the watch is engraved with “Pièce unique – Only Watch 2011”

Special bonus

If you dig deep enough to become the lucky owner of the “pièce unique” in addition to owning a superb timepiece there will be an exciting surprise bonus. You will be invited by Cyrus to Le Locle in Switzerland, all expenses paid to collect your new purchase.

In Switzerland you will meet with the watchmaker Jean-François Mojon and Laurent Lecamp, CEO of Cyrus, and over two days all the secrets of the watch will be revealed. One detail in particular has not been revealed either to the press or to other avid connoisseurs. Definitely one to bid for if your bank balance can withstand the shock.
