Some time back we featured Ladoire Mr. Green See: ‘Meet Mr. Green, part of the new Ladoire Genève ‘Black Widow’ collection’. Now it’s time to introduce Mr. Race, a watch designed to ‘rock your time’ assuming of course you are man enough.
Mr. Race is aptly named for the hot new addition to the spooky cool Ladoire Black Widow collection, for, like all the watches in the collection, there are only going to be just 12 of them made. And with one of them inevitably going to blogger Ariel Adams for reviews, this augurs an obscene bun fight among the Geneva punk playboy set to get their hands on one of the remaining 11.
The watch comes with the patented HMS Planetary time display complication with three rotating disks positioned on hi-tech ceramic ball bearings. The Black Widow Mr. Race watch also features a quickset GMT hand that automatically advances with the push of a button on the right side of the case. The open-worked dial and movement are decked out in striking white and hot chilli red accents.
Mr. Race comes on a full-grain smooth leather strap with red top-stitching and a double pin buckle.
There are two ads printed to date to promote Mr. Race, one features the Black Widow herself, looking a little anaemic and with something of the night about her. In front of her is one of the 12 precious Black Widow Mr. Race watches with the line ‘if you think you are man enough’. This will no doubt have the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK bleating about sexual stereotyping.

In the second ad, our Black Widow vampire heroine is seated in a red sports car presumably next to Mr. Race, a chap who clearly hasn’t stood close to a razor in days. Her long scarf trails behind her in blatant violation of at least half a dozen Health and Safety regulations regarding the dangers of items of clothing becoming ensnared by passing traffic.
But we can all rest easy, because thanks to this behind the scenes shot we can see there is no danger at all save freezing to death in a foggy Geneva suburb while shooting takes place.
But to be fair, Lionel Ladoire and Richard Piras at Ladoire Genève have done a great job in creating a watch that is bold, striking and fresh, and generating a campaign with a story behind it. The watches will be featured at Baselworld 2011.
