We’ve featured a few watches from Lum-Tec over the past year or so. For those of you that aren’t aware, the American watch brand has developed what it calls MDV (Maximum Darkness Visibility) Technology – a luminescent compound which is said to be more than 3 times brighter than a regular Super Luminova coating. The result is that the hands and indexes of a Lum-Tec watch glow like no other.
Lum-Tec watches are also normally very reasonably priced, consist of excellent build quality and are crafted from high grade materials. Despite only being 5 years old, which is relatively young in watchmaking terms, the brand has become very popular amongst watch lovers, especially online, with internet forums positively glowing with praise for the Ohio based company.
One of Lum-Tec’s most recent offerings is the 300M series, a 40mm (also available in 45mm) automatic diving watch. The one pictured below is in stainless steel with black and white (300M-1) version , although there are 3 other versions available: PVD with black and white (300M-2), a black and orange PVD coated version )300M-3) or a rather fetching stainless steel blue, white and black version (300M-4).
The watch includes a highly accurate Japanese Miyota 9015 movement, with both hacking and hand winding features. The 300M-2, which is the black and white PVD coated version is actually powered by a Seiko Sii NH35 movement so there is something else for you to consider there.
The 316L stainless steel case includes a unidirectional 60 click bezel, complete with sapphire insert, which looks great and will certainly help to give the watch a commanding presence when on the wrist.
The sapphire crystal has been treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The matt black dial features white hands and markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock with the white Lum-Tec logo found just below 12 o’clock. The remaining hour markers are in white, all of which have been treated with an 8 layer, 2 tone coating of MDV lume. You’ll also find a date window at 4.30.
The Lum-Tec 300M series is limited to 150 pieces per watch and comes with a choice of an anti-static rubber strap or a 316 stainless steel bracelet. £690.00.
