Jaeger Le Coultre has just released a new limited edition of the AMVOX2 Grand Chronograph in honour of a former mechanic and driving instructor – albeit at Brands Hatch in England.
During his illustrious career Mexican born Adrián Fernández advanced to the very top levels of motor sport with multiple wins in the Champ Car (CART), IndyCar and the American Le Mans Series with the Lowe’s Fernández Racing Team.
Based in Lugano Switzerland, 47 year old Fernandez, who has never had a manager, has got to where he is now by doing everything himself, including finding sponsors and securing rides. He became the Aston Martin Works Team official driver in 2010 and to date has had at least three podiums.
The AMVOX2 Grand Chronograph Adrián Fernández
The watch inspired by Adrián Fernández will be produced in a limited series of just 50 pieces in pink gold.
The dial and the strap feature the green, white, and red colours of Mexico’s national flag. The dial features the initials of Adrián Fernández between 7 and 8 o’clock, and the case-back carries an engraving with his name.
The partnership between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre dates all the way back to the 1920’s, when Aston Martin automobiles featured Jaeger dashboard instruments.
The unique feature of the watch resides in a single-pusher system, which uses the sapphire crystal to control the functions. In order to start, stop or reset the chronograph mechanism the user just has to press the glass. It works via a patented vertical-trigger chronograph eliminating the need for push buttons. The chronograph starts and stops with a push of the crystal at 12 o’clock. To reset, press on the crystal at 6 o’clock.
The chronograph also features a column-wheel control mechanism, a 65 hour power reserve, and a variable inertia balance wheel. The rotor’s ceramic ball bearings never need lubrication.
