Munster based watch manufacture MeisterSinger has created a limited edition of 60 watches to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. The makers of the German single-hand watch have replicated one of Britain’s most historic clocks for the timepiece, which will be available exclusively to the UK market.
It was a natural choice for MeisterSinger as the clock on the North-West tower of Westminster Abbey is single handed, and it was where the Queen’s coronation was staged in 1953. Even the idea of a German watch manufacture making a watch for a British coronation is not that unusual, after all, Queen Elizabeth is a patrilineal descendant of Prince Albert’s family, the German princely House of Wettin.
MeisterSinger’s Westminster Abbey 60th Anniversary Coronation Watch has a manually wound, Swiss-made Unitas movement visible through a large sapphire transparent glass back, and features a regal purple and gold dial with a single hand.
MeisterSinger watches are “designed in Germany” but also bear the label “Swiss made”, because they are produced by a small Swiss watch manufacturer according to the company’s designs.
Called the MeisterSinger Westminster Abbey 60th Anniversary Coronation Watch, it will come with a certificate signed by the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster and by Manfred Brassler, the founder and head designer of Meistersinger.
Each MeisterSinger Westminster Abbey 60th Anniversary Coronation Watch is individually numbered and appropriately priced at £1,953.
