Following our WatchCrime report 11 days ago about a smash and grab raid on the Rox jewellery store in Edinburgh where up to £1m in goods is believed to have been stolen, two men have been arrested and charged.
Lincoln Warmington, 26, and Elliot Jorgensen, 25, have already appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with the alleged robbery.
The pair – from the Salford area of Greater Manchester – made no plea or declaration to a charge stating they allegedly robbed Rox in Edinburgh’s George Street on 15 January, purportedly making a getaway on a Honda 650cc motorcycle.
Diamond necklaces, rings and watches were said to be taken during the robbery which took place during evening rush hour. Eyewitnesses told police that one of the robbers was armed with a gun while his accomplice is said to have carried an axe.
The Rox Jewellery Store, Edinburgh
The store was opened four months ago in an event which was attended by former BBC Scotland weather girl Cat Cubie and the rapper Timothy McKenzie, aka Labrinth. The theft is believed to be one of Scotland’s largest ever jewellery heists.
Since the raid, the store has spent £50,000 on improving its security. Managers have employed a full-time security guard and a locked-door policy. A smoke cloud system, which fills the shop with a thick fog to reduce visibility, has also been installed by the retailer.
