Swiss watch brand Tissot has been named the official timekeeper for the 2013 RBS Six Nations rugby tournament. The new three year partnership will see Tissot provide on screen timing graphics during live matches to the broadcast partners of the tournament. In addition, all Six Nations match referees and game officials will be equipped with a Tissot T-Touch Expert watch in order to assist them with their duties during a match.
Tissot will also display a countdown clock on the tournament’s official website, which will countdown to the tournament’s opening game between Wales, who are the current champions, and Ireland at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
Tissot had previously acted as the official timekeeper in 2004 and 2005 and replace British/Swiss watchmaker Graham London, who had been the tournament’s timekeeper since 2009.
Tissot T-Touch Expert
The Tissot T-Touch Expert is the 4th generation of the brand’s now famous T-Touch family and follows other popular Tissot timepieces such as the original T-Touch, the T-Touch Trekking and T-Touch Navigator.
The T-Touch Expert is perhaps the most feature-packed watch Tissot have produced and offers a good mix of sporting style with easy to use features and technology. The T-Touch line is made famous by its touch screen that turns a standard sapphire crystal screen into a fully functional interface that is touch sensitive.
The watch itself is jam-packed with features (15 in total), which include a mechanism that measures altitude difference, a perpetual calendar, two alarms, a countdown timer, a thermometer and a compass. The T-Touch Expert also includes an End of Life battery indicator, which is perhaps one of the most useful features that can be used from day to day.
Crafted from titanium, the case measures 43.6mm in diameter and incorporates a rotating bezel and a scratch resistant anti-reflective sapphire crystal, which is water resistant up to 100m. As both Tissot and ETA are part of the Swatch Group, the watch is powered by the ETA E48.351 quartz movement along with the HMSD analogue digital system.
Some of the watch’s other functions include a chronograph, a barometer with additional weather indicators and azimuth. Despite its many functions, the black carbon dial still offers good readability. The watch is available with a choice of a titanium bracelet, black or brown leather strap, as well as an orange or black rubber strap, all of which are secured with a sturdy folding clasp.
The Tissot T-Touch Expert watch was created with professional mountaineers or serious outdoor enthusiasts in mind. Its array of features will surely provide more than enough to help the Six Nations rugby referees keep 30 burly rugby players in check.
