Just when it was safe to bring your phone out, things have got a lot thinner in the mobile world.
Reports have surfaced that Huawei have launched what is considered to be the slimmest device in the world. So what is this nifty little number that’s got the world’s press slaving over their desks?
The Ascend P6 from Chinese tech giants Huawei. This Android based smartphone comes from the stable of currently the biggest telecoms giant in the world.
Huawei we go
They have dominated the touchscreen market and overtook Ericsson in 2012 as the largest manufacturer of tech related equipment.
At just 0.24 inches thick or less than 6.2mm it literally is as thin as a rake. But let’s not potter about too long as you might be wondering what else this slinky phone packs into its 4.7 inch display.

Other features of which you can take advantage include a 5 megapixel front camera with the ability to take high image portraits as well as one of the slinkiest circuit boards in mobile history.
Meanwhile, this new device is even thinner than not only the iPhone 5 but the previous record holder – the Alcatel One Idol Ultra.
Ultra smooth
This previously held the distinct honour of being the world’s skinniest phone though tipped the scales a touch heavier than its rivals at the 120 gram mark.
Still not enticed? Well our sources tell us that the Ascend P6 offers Emotion which is its own user friendly interface. Other highlights include an 8 megapixel rear facing camera not to mention the latest Android operating system Jelly Bean 4.2.2
It also has an expandable memory up to 32GB and a dedicated 1.5 GHz quad core processor with battery life extended by as much as 30%.
Created in 1987 when Bon Jovi were Livin’ on a Prayer and everyone was doing La Bamba, Huawei are an established Chinese brand across Asia.
Step back in time
Thanks to Huawei’s step into the Android phone sector, it has notched up greater success. Data from IDC states that nearly 10 million devices were shipped in the first quarter of 2013, putting the firm well in the top 5 largest manufacturer helm.
Yet the jury is still out in the western hemisphere as consumers here are still largely unaware of Huawei. However with some of the revenue earned, they are set to raise their profile to become the leading maker of smart phones by 2018.
An ambitious statement you might think but it may not be as far-fetched as it seems. According to BBC News, Shao Yang from, chief marketing officer at Huawei declared; “Seven years ago nobody would have believed Apple could be so successful, and maybe five years ago that Samsung could be so successful.”
Samsung still dominate the smartphone industry with a staggering 95% of market share when it comes to Android phones.
Android leader
Huawei intends to continue its growth and is due to sell in the region of 60 million units this year with the bulk of those sales coming from China.
Looks like eastern promises are not too far away.
