It’s all too easy to forget that Swatch’s vast collection of colourful low cost watches have done more than their share to rescue and maintain the Swiss watch industry over the past three decades. Without these bestsellers in their arsenal, the mighty Swatch Group would not have the foundation of funding for their high end watch brands such as Breguet and Blancpain.
The cool watch hit of summer 2013 is likely to be the youth oriented Scuba Libre collection. Typically Swatch in appearance on a range of colourful silicone straps with chunky bezels, eye catching dials, and a date window at 3 o’clock, these are also excellent divers, water resistant to 200 metres and with good underwater legibility.
The ‘Scuba Libre’ Collection, consists of nine statement watches drenched with bold design and standout colours. The new collection takes inspiration from summer city life; sky lines majestically reflecting onto water or the sun streaming down onto streets packed with cyclists and tourists. Each watch is joyously named after sea creatures and summer moments.
The TV commercial to promote the range is equally summery, using a variety of sea creatures and marine related symbols to emphasise the aquatic themed nature of the new collection.
Swatch have also kept the brand immediate and relevant by encouraging owners to submit their own Instagram pictures of themselves wearing their favourite Scuba Libre.
You can pick up a colourful Scuba Libre of your own for around £57.00.
