With the grass court season now underway what has been causing a racquet in the sporting world? Well it seems that our beloved timepieces are hogging all the headlines.
This comes in the wake of Swiss outfit Rado who have signed a 3 year deal with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) until 2015. This official collaboration has strengthened its ties with the LTA and was recently the Official Timekeeper for the AEGON Championships at The All England Club in London.
Radiant Rado
Known as the Queen’s Club, it was founded initially way back in 1886 by Queen Victoria as the official patron. This particular event has been held here for more than a century and is believed to be one of the oldest global tournaments to be played on grass.

The clocks in the corner of the courts and public spaces were both provided at Queen’s by Rado just last week where Andy Murray beat off former champion Marin Cilic to claim his third title.
In addition to this, Rado will be seen at the AEGON Classic taking place at the Edgbaston Priory Club as well as the AEGON International in Eastbourne. These are considered to be two of the major tournaments on grass across the ATP men’s tour.

According to the LTA site, Matthias Breschan, CEO or Rado declared; “We are very proud that Rado has become an Official Sponsor of the LTA and it is fantastic that we can add this prestigious set of grass tournaments to our tennis calendar. We look forward to an exciting three years.”
Lawrence Robertson, commercial director from the Lawn Tennis Association added; “We are delighted to welcome Rado into the LTA’s family of sponsors. With such great history and heritage in our sport, the brand fit was an obvious one for us and it is a real honour for the LTA to be joining such a prestigious portfolio of tennis partnerships for Rado.”
But before we settle down on Murray Mound with a punnet of strawberries at this year’s Wimbledon, what other timely contributions have luxury watches made to the sporting arena?
Longines has had a long relationship with the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris. They have been their official partner since 2007 and are also involved with a host of other tournaments.
Live Longines and Prosper
This includes the Kremlin Cup as well as being the main sponsor for not only Andre Agassi but his partner Steffi Graff’s Foundation for Education.
Other partnerships Longines have been involved with include being timekeeper for more than 30 Tours de France and a number of different horse racing events.
Timely Partnerships
With sporting fixtures moving across to the powerhouse Middle Eastern territories, Longines have found a new market to raise their profile. For example, they currently sponsor the Dubai Sheema Classic, the Singapore Gold Cup and several Hong Kong International Races.
They have even chicaned their way into the F1 market thanks to their innovation which led to Longines teaming up with Italian powerhouse Ferrari.
Now that’s amore.
