Oris partnered with the RAID Suisse-Paris Classic Car rallies last year as the official time keeper and produced some of the best looking chronographs the manufacture has yet created, inspired by the Jaguar XK 120.

This year at the opening of the 2011 Raid Suisse-Paris, they came out with two new pieces. A chronograph version and an alarm version, once again inspired by a classic dashboard, this time the dashboard of a 1953 Austin Healey 100M, (100 representing the top speed of the vehicle) which won the rally last year. And it has to be said, Oris has excelled themselves once again.

The RAID Suisse-Paris rally

The rally originated in 1991 and involves pre-1975 classic cars participating in a picturesque 600-mile contest that begins in Basel and ends in Paris. Like no other rally the RAID Suisse-Paris combines driving pleasure with cultural highlights. And no other rally offers its participants a culture booklet in which all cultural highlights along the route are described. It has to be the most civilised and gentlemanly rally on the planet.

The chronograph movement is housed within a stainless steel case with double curved sapphire crystal and a non reflective coating on the inside, with the RAID Suisse-Paris logo displayed on the case- back.

Limited to 500 pieces, the Oris RAID 2011 Chronograph Limited Edition features innovative design functions which are instrumental in assisting the co-pilot to time the rally legs. The number 21 on the date disc is printed in red, a nod to to the 21st RAID Suisse-Paris.

There’s going to be another race on to get hold of the Oris RAID Alarm edition, for just 50 pieces will be released. It features a beautifully constructed alarm function with its own central display and red pointer hand which can be activated at the touch of a button – enabling the rally team to accurately target the arrival time.
