It seems Rafael Nadal isn’t the only tennis player who loses his watch after winning a Grand Slam. Just moments after winning the US Open yesterday, Andy Murray’s joy at winning turned to worry as the tennis star started shouting about his missing watch.
Murray signed a deal with Swatch Group-owned Rado in June to become a brand ambassador and it was a Rado D-Star Chronograph that the player was struggling to find.
He was filmed asking where his watch was and saying that he didn’t have it. The US Open winner was then seen rummaging in his bag looking for the watch.
Fortunately Murray found it just moments before it was time to pick up the trophy and, as the pictures show, he wore while presenting the US Open Trophy.
Murray was also pictured wearing the watch at a huge press photocall in Central Park and continued to wear the timepiece on a New York City trophy tour and on the CBS This Morning show although during filming he wore his sleeves long.
The question is now, will Swatch CEO Nick Hayek junior emulate Hublot Chairman Jean-Claude Biver’s recent tribute to Olympic gold medal sprinter Usain Bolt and fly Murray by helicopter to his home in Switzerland and present him with a special edition Rado for winning his first grand slam. It could become a new Swiss watch industry tradition. If he does, we’ll definitely let you know.
