Happy New Year!
We start 2013 with what is quite literally a mini revolution in watchmaking. La Chaux de Fonds based Swiss watchmaker Marc Jenni has introduced the next evolution the world’s first lateral winding system. It’s a new Prologue WDT model that comes with a turning ring and button in place of the conventional stem and crown.
Two years in development, the watch is set within a circular stainless steel case, sand blasted to a satin finishing with a pusher located at 4 o’clock. Conventionally, the crown would be located at the right hand side of the watch but Marc Jenni has developed and replaced the conventional crown with a new system in which the time and date can be adjusted in a much more fluid movement.
Each press of the selector button at the four o’clock position moves the three-pointed WDT indicator around to highlight the selected function: W for winding, D for the date correction and T for the setting of the time. The W, D and T pusher and ring system allows the user to instantly recognise which function is adjusted without making mistakes.
To correct individual functions within the watch, just push the button and the time and date can be adjusted through turning the ring until the action is complete.
The Prologue WDT dial variations include black nickel or rhodium-plated hour segments and rhodium plated hands and hour markers.
