Last month Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team officially became known as Friends of the Brand. The Swiss watch manufacturer became the Official Engineering Partner to the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS team earlier this year.
Rosberg and Hamilton share the spotlight 20 times a year as the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team travels from one venue to another, across the globe.
Watch aficionado Hamilton, whose side burns now seem to be in a race to reach his chin, declared: “I love wristwatches, and it seems to me that those made by IWC have a lot in common with Formula One™ drivers: they’re unique, high-performance watches and among the best in their field. Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to our partnership with the company.”
Hamilton at Selfridges
To reinforce his appointment as Friend of the Brand, Hamilton put in an appearance at Selfridges in London yesterday to mark the opening of IWC’s two-week pop-up exhibition in the Selfridges London Wonder Room.
The exhibition honours IWC becoming the official engineering partner to the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team earlier this year and celebrates the remodelled 2013 IWC Ingenieur watch collection.
Hamilton was joined by Mercedes AMG Petronas team principal Ross Brawn at the opening of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s exhibition, which marks IWC becoming the official engineering partner to the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team earlier this year.
Selfridges’ Wonder Room will house the IWC pop-up exhibition until 7 July, 2013.
IWC Ingenieur Constant Force Tourbillon
The Ingenieur collection for 2013 has been comprehensively reviewed, and in pole position is the new Ingenieur Constant Force Tourbillon in platinum with a ceramic case. The constant force mechanism is integrated in the tourbillion to guarantee lasting and constant precision. The higher torque demanded to power the constant force tourillon is supplied by two barrels, which also drive the moon phase module.
IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month
This is another stunning addition to the line up. The case is made of lightweight titanium aluminide. Each night when the date display advances it hives off a little energy and stores it till the end of the month or year. The stored energy is then available to make two calendar jumps precisely when necessary.
The dial has semi-transparent sapphire glass inlays over the date, month and leap year discs, allowing the wearer to enjoy watching the discs as they advance. On New Year’s Eve the five discs begin to move simultaneously in a sophisticated demonstration of mechanical excellence.
