It takes more than the inconvenience of a burglary for Girard Perregaux to call time on exhibiting its magnificent collection of watches.
Since 1999 the Girard Perregaux Watch Museum has displayed many important collections to show off their mastery of the watch makers art, but the museum has had to be temporarily closed due to the burglary.
Now they have linked up with long time allies Boucheron the renowned Paris jewellers in Place Vendome, to continue to allow customers to discover some of their groundbreaking (not to say breathtaking) creations, including the famous Tourbillon with three gold Bridges, a pocket watch awarded the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1889 for its exceptional character.
The exhibition is divided into three parts
The first displays the long association with the brand and the Parisian jewellers, as well as a walk through the history of Maison Girard Perregaux from its founding right up to the present day.
The second exhibition space is dedicated to the Genevan watch making and jewellery house Bautte which was taken over by Girard Perregaux a century ago. Visitors will be able to admire numerous dress watches and archive documents, and take a close look at the text in which Alexandre Dumas describes the boutique as “the most fashionable jeweller’s boutique in Geneva”.
The third and final exhibition space will cover various themes including the origins of our time zone system against a backdrop of antique watch making tools and machines, and the numerous awards collected by Girard Perregaux from the Neuchatel Obesrvatory.
If you happen to be in Paris or you’re planning a trip there in the next week, the exhibition will be held at Boucheron, 26 Place Vendome Paris from October 13 to 16th only.
