Seems like the boffins at Concord watches have leapt onto the idea that their latest creation looks a little like a big black spider and they are thrashing the idea for all its worth, so who are we to stand in the way of their vision. The Press Release continues:
Born in vitro in the C lab, creator of avant-garde watchmaking, the C1 BlackSpider spins a world in which time is caught fast in its web and beats to the rhythmical oscillations of a tourbillon mechanism. Its original concept is a closely interwoven combination of aesthetic and technical elements.
The C105 Movement
The limited edition Concord C1 BlackSpider was indeed created in the C Lab, a research unit specialising in the development of avant-garde watches. The watch is powered by a hand-wound hand-made 19-jewel C105 movement, which features a tourbillon escapement, visible through a 47mm skeletonised, arachnid-shaped base plate.
There are two cutouts, one at 6 o’clock displays the tourbillon while the other at 1 o’clock gives the view of the balance wheel. This beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a three day power reserve.
25-piece limited edition
The Concord C1 BlackSpider is a 25-piece limited edition black watch, and the case band carries a raised disk bearing the individual series number enhanced by a diamond-polished finish. The matt vulcanised rubber strap is secured to the case by four self-locking screws, while the lug-free attachment construction ensures ease of use at all times. The dark and brooding looks of the C1 BlackSpider is likely to ensure that the 25-piece limited edition series is quickly ensared by collectors.
About Concord
Concord Watch was founded in Biel, Switzerland in 1908. From the start, the brand was created to design watches very much with the American market in mind and it’s no coincidence today that it is part of the New York based Movado Group. The Movado Group also owns Coach, Lacoste, Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger watches.
Over the years, Concord has made several innovations such as being one of the first “private label” luxury watches to incorporate precious metals and gems in its timepieces. It was also the first company to make a wristwatch made of coins. The C1 lab concept was established in 2007 as a way to create high quality concept watches to compete with the likes of Panerai, Audemars Piguet and Hublot. The C1 Gravity Tourbillion won the prestigious “Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve” as ‘Best design of the year 2008.’
