Fears that Britain is heading for a triple-dip recession have heightened after the latest snapshot of the construction industry revealed a deterioration in business conditions…
Meanwhile flooding in Britain has brought misery to hundreds more homes, as torrential rain moves away into the North Sea leaving the worst insurance bills for five years in its wake…
It’s no wonder Britain needs some Christmas TV watch commercials to cheer itself up.
Cartier Winter Tale
Cartier have just released Cartier Winter Tale, except they should call it Cartier Winter Tail because two leopard cubs nearly knock thousands of pounds worth of Cartier watch and jewellery goodies over with their tails as they run and gambol among them in the snow lined fir trees of a sparkling festive wonderland.
But as regular readers of Click Tempus will know, there is so much watch crime in Britain these days that if such items were really left lying in the snow, masked snow mobile bandits would be out there scooping them up and everything would be gone in 60 seconds, including the cute leopard cubs who would be taken for their fur. Thank heavens this was filmed far from Brent Cross.
Watch Shop
For those of us who can only glimpse Cartier through the frosty pane of their fantasy commercial, there is the much more prosaic Watch Shop commercial.
Watch Shop brings us back to the cold quartz reality of our horological expectations for Christmas. Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Accurist, Sekonda, maybe even a Hugo Boss, all the affordable stainless steel stuff watch snobs love to hate.
In the Watch Shop commercial, a series of enthusiastic customers of all ages look in wonder as watches morph onto their wrists in a multi-dimensional Watch Shop world. These are the watches almost within grasping distance of triple dip recession, flood sodden punters, provided their pre-defaulting credit cards don’t set off alarm bells at the counter. At least there is no fear of bike raiders here, the resell value on hocked Seksy’s and Fossil’s probably isn’t worth the jail time.
And in case you are wondering whether aspirational advertising works, 1,261,000 viewers have watched Cartier Winter Tale on You Tube, as compared to 282,000 for Watch Shop.
We’ll report on more Christmas watch commercials as we see them.
