Century Prima Donna

Last week we featured the exceptional Century Leela Blossom watch, a stunning addition to the Swiss sapphire specialist’s Master line.

Now Prima Donna in red gold forms part of the Precious Elegance collection dedicated to exceptional timepieces. Prima Donna is inspired by a jewellery icon: the marquise cut. According to legend, its gracefully tapered, streamlined form was conceived at the court of Versailles, when Louis XV commissioned a gem to be fashioned in a shape that resembled the lips of his beloved, the Marquise de Pompadour.

The legend has been brought back to life in the 52 facets of the CENTURY sapphire, each one cut and polished entirely by hand. Each material was carefully selected: the mother-of-pearl dial, with an optional inner ring of diamonds; hour-markers set with brilliant-cut diamonds; gold lugs studded with diamonds to resemble a royal crown, or a tiara worn by a celebrity in a deliberately modern style.

The architecture of the CENTURY sapphire heightens the reflective, transparent effects against a palladium coloured or red gold background. The strap is available in satin or alligator leather, it also comes in a bracelet version for a stunning all-gold look. The latter takes the form of intricate Milanese mesh, a time-honoured technique passed down from Italian Renaissance goldsmiths.
