Baselworld 2013: Louis Moinet Nelson Piquet Chronograph Watch

Baselworld

The Nelson Piquet Chronograph watch from Louis Moinet is the first timepiece from the brand’s all new Legends collection.

Limited to 365 pieces, the watch is a sporty, automatic chronograph which celebrates the life of the three times Formula One world champion. Piquet recorded an impressive 23 grand prix victories during his 13 year career, finishing on the podium 60 times.

The Nelson Piquet Chronograph boasts a number of F1 style characteristics, which includes a driver friendly rubber strap, tachymeter scale, carbon fibre and high tech steel bezel, high-vis hands and carbon fibre chrono pushers that are adorned with a chequered flag motif.

The watch is presented in a stainless steel case measuring 45.6mm in diameter with carbon fibre used throughout. The case houses a Louis Moinet chronograph mechanical movement that operates at a frequency of 28,800vph, with 25 jewels and a power reserve of 44 hours.

The case also includes a see through case back where you can clearly see the nicely finished bridges and plates of the movement. If you take a closer look at the case back you can also see the rhodium plated black ball bearing rotor, the design of which is inspired by the high performance disc brakes used on F1 cars.

The dial of the Nelson Piquet watch is both clear and functional and has obviously been designed with motorsport fans very much in mind. With its bright counter and clean cut sub dials, the dial is then further highlighted by the superluminova coated hands which look great against the navy blue backdrop.

At the position of 9 o’clock you’ll find a small seconds dial with a 30 minute counter and 12hr counter found at 3 and 6 o’clock respectively. The dial is then finished with the Louis Moinet logo at 12 o’clock and Nelson Piquet’s signature at 5 o’clock. The lower part of the dial also includes a vertical design, which inspired by the starting grid of an F1 track.

The Louis Moinet Nelson Piquet Chronograph watch is available on either a rubber or leather strap with a folding clasp. The watch also comes in a deluxe presentation case
