Hublot have developed three hot new watches in time for Baselworld 2011.
These include the 48mm, F1 King Power Tourbillon King Gold Ceramic, the Big Bang Black Caviar (not the million dollar version but a more modestly priced model in ceramic) and the Classic Fusion Opaline Dial.
F1 King Power Tourbillon King Gold Ceramic
As the official watchmaker of Formula 1, this new and unmissably large 48mm model comes with the HUB7300 tourbillon movement which has a five-day power reserve.
It features a special tourbillon cage and a balance with Formula 1 brake disc decoration. The ceramic watch bezel also resembles an F1 brake disc. Ceramic is one of the biggest things to happen to watches in recent years.
It’s 30% lighter than steel, 100% scratchproof, 100% anti-allergenic, and 100% rust-proof. The watch comes on a Nomex strap stitched onto rubber and was developed by Dupont.
It’s designed for low combustibility and optimal thermostability, so in theory it’s safe to wear while powering a racing car round the circuit. Water resistant to 100 metres, this watch is limited to just 50 pieces.
Big Bang Black Caviar
There’s a US$1m version of this watch, making it comfortably out of reach for most mortals, but this serving of Black Caviar does not come with diamonds.
Instead its exterior is made almost entirely from ceramic, and, in a first for Hublot, that includes the crown and dial. The case, dial and bezel are black, black, black, perhaps taking a cue from stealth bombers under the concept of ‘invisible visibility’. Its reliefs are designed, cut, bevelled and polished like the baguette black diamonds of its richer sister.
The case measures 41mm in diameter and is powered by the HUB1112 automatic mechanical movement with a 42 hour power reserve and is water resistant to 100 metres.
The Black Caviar comes on a glossy black alligator strap stitched on black rubber.
Classic Fusion Opaline Dial
Despite all the fuss, import and exclusivity of the other two models, this could steal the show for elegance.
It’s a new Classic Fusion housing a silvered opaline dial with an altogether more sober and elegant appearance. It features baton indexes and a date window at 3 o’clock. The new Classic Fusion Opaline Dial is available in two sizes, 42 and 45 mm, and in two versions: zirconium and 5N red gold. Two models, two movements; the HUB 1112 and HUB 1110 automatic mechanicals, water resistant to 5 Bar (50 metres).
