Fans of Audemars Piguet will no doubt already be aware that this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the famous Royal Oak Offshore collection. To mark the anniversary, the Swiss luxury watch maker has released a range of new Royal Oak Offshore watches.
The Royal Oak Offshore collection is perhaps one of the benchmarks for all complicated watches and includes the first of its kind watch to feature in the brands ‘sporty’ range. What makes the new Grand Complication watch special is that AP has pretty much torn up the rule book as far as grand complications go.
This kind of watch might typically include a chronograph, minute repeater and some sort of astronomical complication, normally a perpetual calendar, which is then housed in a suitably stylish and elegant case. However, this time around, Audemars Piguet has combined a self winding split second chronograph calibre 2885 movement that features a moon phase indicator, perpetual calendar and a minute repeater.
Other highlights in the new range include the Royal Oak Offshore Diver, the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph and the ladies Royal Oak Offshore Ladycat Chronograph.
Royal Oak Offshore Grande Complication
The Royal Oak Offshore Grand Complication brings a whole new meaning to a ‘sports’ watch. Just when you thought AP’s most popular collection couldn’t get any better the luxury watch brand go and release this masterpiece.
The watch, which as mentioned, features a split second chronograph, perpetual calendar and minute repeater contains the AP calibre 2885 movement that is made up of 648 individual parts. Limited to just 3 pieces, this is luxury watch making at its finest. The watch measures 44mm in diameter and is available in either pink gold (ref no 26571RO.OO.A010CA.01) or titanium (26571IO.OO.A010CA.01).
The Royal Oak Offshore Grande Complication watch is priced at a whopping $741, 600.
Royal Oak Offshore Diver
The new Royal Oak Offshore collection also includes a new Diver’s watch that features a black ceramic dial with an orange accent on the dial. Measuring 42mm in diameter, the Royal Oak Offshore Diver is driven by an automatic calibre 320 movement, which beats at a rate of 21,600 vph and is visible through the watch’s sapphire crystal case back. The watch offers water resistance to 300 metres and provides the user excellent readability in all conditions. The Royal Oak Offshore Diver is priced at $21,800.
Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph
The new Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph is a ceramic version of AP’s ever popular chronograph. The watch features a black ceramic case that measures 44mm in diameter and includes a glare-proof sapphire crystal on the front and back, as well as a black ceramic bezel. The black dial features a ‘Mega Tapisserie’ pattern, with black counters and white gold hour markers. The specialised Royal Oak hands have been treated with a luminescent coating. The watch includes a self winding movement that has a 55 hour power reserve and beats at 21,600vph.
Royal Oak Offshore Ladycat Chronograph
The ladies Royal Oak Offshore Ladycat Chronograph is available in either white gold or steel and is limited to 10 and 150 pieces respectively. Released in support of the Ladycat sailing team, of which AP is a major sponsor.
The Ladycat’s black dial gold hour markers and gem set bezel, complete with a folding clasp to match. Looking closer at the clasp, it is encrusted with a total of 323 diamonds that weigh in at 5.82 carats.
The watch is powered by an automatic winding mechanical movement that includes a chronograph function and 40hr power reserve.
Despite being aimed at female watch lovers of a somewhat sportier persuasion, with a price expected to reach in excess of $30,000, the Royal Oak Offshore Ladycat Chronograph might not necessarily be a watch you would wear in the gym!
