There has been much excitement about the fact that Arcadia watches are back.
Arcadia was founded in 1858 and became the flagship of the Fleurier Watch Company. The classically-inspired Fleurier brand enjoyed great renown among connoisseurs of quality watches, epitomized by names like Breitling and Rolex.
The revival has come about as a result of Claude Sanz. Sanz is a trained geologist and mineralogist, as well as an expert in setting and designing mechanical complications. He acquired Bunter 40 years ago, a company that specialises in the cutting of industrial stones and rubies needed for watch making. Today, Bunter is recognised by all the pre-eminent Swiss watch making firms.
In the 1990s Sanz discovered and became fascinated by Arcadia’s story, a formerly illustrious watch making venture, and promptly decided to take over the Arcadia brand. With Bunter’s structural and technical support, Sanz has set about renovating each Arcadia calibre and fitted them into modern cases with sleek designs, using the latest technologies and materials. The result is a combination of the richness of the past and the boldness of the future. Now Arcadia marks its return to the international scene with the reinterpretation of the Arcadia AC01.
The Arcadia AC01 is a limited edition of 275 watches made from titanium (for the case), carbon (for the split-level dial), and anti-allergenic technological fibre (for the strap), married to watch making functions that evoke the sophistication of the Fleurier Watch Company:
