Into the black: Seiko Ananta Automatic Chronograph Diver

Seiko has refreshed many of its collections to celebrate its 130th Anniversary. The Ananta Automatic Chronograph Diver’s formed an important part of the Commemorative Collection and will be offered as a limited edition of just 700 pieces. It will be released in the autumn on a worldwide basis.

The first Seiko diving watch was launched in 1965. Since then, the brand has been at the forefront of diving watch technology. They launched the world’s first titanium diving watch in 1975, and the world’s first computerised diving watch in 1990.

Calibre 8R39. Designed for diving

The new Ananta Chronograph Diver’s Watch is powered by calibre 8R39, a movement with a 48 hour power reserve designed especially for diving. The balance spring is Seiko’s in-house SPRON610 with upgraded shock-resistance and anti-magnetism made even more shock resistant with three clamps rather than the usual two employed in most chronographs.

Jet black lacquer dial

Of course legibility is all important under water so as well as a large medical grade stainless steel 44mm case, Seiko commissioned Isshu Tamura, a world-renowned lacquer artist, to meticulously create a dial painted layer by layer, and then polished by hand so as to achieve a lustrous pure jet black colour. The legibility is further enhanced by the use of a non-reflective coating on the sapphire glass.
Seiko’s Ananta range represents dedication to perfection, and the word itself is Sanskrit for perfection.

The design ethos behind Ananta is inspired by Katana, the ancient Japanese art of sword making.

This strictly limited Seiko Ananta Automatic Chronograph Diver will be priced at US$4,700.
