Baume & Mercier Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase

We recently featured the Baume & Mercier Clifton collection as part of our coverage of SIHH 2013. However, perhaps the most interesting newcomer to the collection is the Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase watch (ref 10057). The watch includes date, day and month displays in addition to a moon phase indicator and is available in two versions: the satin blue sun dial, pictured above, or with a silver satin dial (ref 10055).

Baume & Mercier is known for seeking inspiration from the watches of yesteryear, with the whole of the Clifton collection being modelled on some of the most popular urban and stylish timepieces from the 1940’s and 50’s.

Featuring a polished stainless steel case with satin finishing, at 43mm the Complete Calendar Moonphase is the largest model in the collection with the other Clifton watches measuring in at between 39 and 41mm, in diameter.

The rounded case of this Moonphase timepiece also has a thickness of approximately 12mm yet doesn’t look as large as you might expect. This is partly due to the tapered lugs which help to afford a more comfortable fit and which would potentially suit someone with smaller sized wrists.

The case is then protected with glare and anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both the front and reverse. The watch is water resistant up to 50 metres.

As the most complicated watch in the Clifton series, the dial is stylish, elegant and very legible and as mentioned, provides information on the date, day, month and moonphase. The day and month are indicated in the display just below the Baume & Mercier name with the moon phase indicator just above 6 o’clock. As well as the hour, minutes and seconds hand you’ll also notice a fourth hand which works around the dial to indicate the date. The small flourish of red at the tip of the date hand and also just above 12 o’clock is very subtle and a pleasing addition to the dial.

Arabic numerals mark the even hours, whilst the odd hours are marked with nicely shaped indexes.

The Baume & Mercier Clifton Complete Calendar Moonphase is powered by a Swiss Dubois Depraz 9000 self-winding mechanical movement which offers 42 hours power reserve and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph.

The watch comes on a black alligator strap which features a deployant buckle with a 2 button safety clasp. Available from approximately £3,350.00
