Create your own H2O Kalmar Dive Watch

New dive watch manufacture H2O Kalmar let you customise your diver watch, they assemble it to your exact specifications in Germany, rigorously inspect it, then ship it to you anywhere in the world. They say they offer 1.458.000 different combinations so you might just find a watch you like.

H2O Kalmar has developed a professional and serious looking dive watch with the option for you to chop and change elements via their website. Whichever watch you choose, certain criteria always same stay the same.

The dial is very high contrasting, clear and easy to read under or over water. The luminescent coating is bright thanks to Luminova BG or W9, and water resistant to a full 3000m.

Beyond that you can choose from 12 different dials, 3 different crown guards, 3 different unidirectional bezels, your choice of caseback and dial finish (choose between titanium brushed or black DLC coated) and colour. And of course you have a choice of straps including rubber, bracelets, and Nato style. What’s more if you order additional bezels and crown guards you can continue to change the look of your H2O simply by unscrewing the hex screws.

H2O Kalmar watches are big, 45mm in diameter and 53mm from lug to lug, and those lugs do bear more than a passing resemblance to fellow German brand UTS. They run on ETA 2824-2 or ETA 2836 GMT movements depending on your choice of model.

The idea of choice is relatively fresh, especially for a divers watch, but the watch design, which borrows from both modern and vintage elements of other divers, does not actually seem to change much from choice to choice – the only major shift in looks is when you opt for black DLC coated as opposed to titanium or brushed cases.

However it seems that H2O Watches are more than willing to listen to their customers and within time there could perhaps be some really noticeable choice creeping in such as a choice of hands and second hands, maybe a different take on indices, maybe even in watch case design. Time will tell. H2O Watches will be at Baselworld 2011 so it’s going to be possible to find out more about them at that stage.

They are taking orders as of now. The company is releasing a range of watches in limited editions starting at US$900 for the Titanium Brushed / 2824-2 to US$1100 for the top end titanium bead blasted black DLC coated 24 GMT. The offer ends on April 30th after which they’ll increase by a further US$200.
