More WatchCrime to report, this time in Leeds. Masked and hooded robbers threatened terrified staff with shotguns and a hammer during a raid at a long established Leeds jewellers on Saturday.
Two men made off with a stash of expensive items including, it is believed, several Rolex watches after the raid at Browns Jewellers in Cross Gates.
Simon Brown, the manager and proprietor of the shop, praised his ‘dedicated’ team of six female employees for their courage during the robbery.
Commenting on the incident he said: “It is traumatic and this is just a little family business so this knocks us for six. But it is a busy shop and everyone is back, working away as usual and getting on with things. We have a lovely team and they are very dedicated. We have a very sophisticated security system and 10 police were here within minutes of the panic alarm going off.”
During the raid, which occurred at around 4pm last Saturday, two female staff members were threatened with a shotgun and a hammer and were forced to open cabinets of jewellery. The men fled the scene with the items and were seen getting into a nearby parked car that was driven by a third man. It is believed they travelled down Church Lane to Barwick Road. Police are appealing for witnesses to call Stainbeck CID on 101.
On Monday morning January 28th, a 23-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and detectives have seized a stolen vehicle which they believe was used in the incident.
