Arnold & Son, the Swiss watch brand based in La Chaux-de-Fonds takes its name from the noted 18th-century London watchmaker John Arnold. Now they have released the HMS1 Collection, which last year won classical watch of the year at the Middle East Premier Awards for the HMS1 in 18-carat white gold case with silver coloured dial.
It’s a new collection of sublimely elegant watches; two in stainless steel cases, with a white or anthracite dial (£6,295 and £6,365, respectively); one in an 18k rose gold case with an anthracite dial (£9,560) limited to 250 pieces; and the award winner in an 18k white gold case with a silver-coloured dial (£10,495), limited to just 100 pieces.
All the cases are 40 mm in diameter, water-resistant to 30 metres (splashproof), and feature curved sapphire crystals with non-reflective coating on both sides as well as sapphire exhibition casebacks.
The watches are powered by Arnold & Son’s in-house, A&S1001 21 jewel hand-wound movement, calibre A&S1001, which powers the hours, minutes and small seconds display at 6 ‘clock on the dial. The movement is only 2.7 mm thick, but incorporates two barrels providing a lengthy 80-hour power reserve, a rarity in a watch in this price segment.
The two-barrel system helps to provides more constant power and more constant force, which, according to Arnold & Son, results in improved timekeeping accuracy.
