It seems Sony is making a splash with their latest smartphone device, the Xperia Z Ultra. One of the first waterproof devices out on the market, it is certain to cause a wave in the mobile sector!
This brand new handset is being promoted as the thinnest large-display handset to be introduced and packs a 6.4 inch screen, equivalent to 16.3cm.

But what else lies inside Sony’s newest addition to the mobile family? It turns out that you can draw as well as write notes with a normal pencil or pen as well as a regular stylus!
The Xperia Z has come as a reaction to the wake of large-screened devices such as the highly popular Samsung Galaxy Note II which boasts a modest 5.5 inch display.
In fact just last year, Samsung were responsible for every 7 out of 10 sales in the phablet category according to research performed by Transparency Market Research.
Fighting the Phablet
Yet they have certainly not rested on their tech laurels thanks to the launch of the successful Samsung Galaxy S4 not to mention the 6.3 giant Galaxy Mega. Why go large when you can super-size?

However Sony already introduced their first slinky number back in January this year. The first Xperia Z seems to be minute in comparison coming in with just a 5 inch screen. The Ultra version will be on sale across Europe from September with Asian markets having access to it in July and August.
As we have seen last week, there are other pretenders to the jumbo screen throne. This includes the likes of Huawei who recently brought out the Ascend Mate with its 6 inch plus display and Asus that features the FonePad Note at 6 inches.
When looking further, The Xperia Z Ultra is less than 7mm thick and comes in just a tad bulkier than Huawei’s latest product – the Ascend P6.
One of its main USP’s is the fact that it can be immersed in water to depths of almost 5 feet. Even after half an hour it is claimed that the device will still remain untarnished. Sounds like a bridge over potentially troubled waters!
Water way to go
Other features of the Ultra handset offer a high definition 1080p screen that has the ability to improve low grade videos or images. Meanwhile, it also provides 16GB of internal memory, expandable storage options and an 8 megapixel rear camera.
So to battery life, and with more than 10 hours talk time and the opportunity to play audio for 120 hours, Sony are billing it as the best on the market.
Android takeover
Further figures from Transparency Market Research reveal that the outlook for Android remains strong. More than 150 million large screen phones were snapped up last year with sales increasing to around 400 million in the next five years.
There is a growing interest in phablets which has already exploded in the Far East where consumers are currently more accustomed to using them as an all in one device rather than separate IT entities.
