While generally we give you the latest news from all four corners of the watch making world, today, we’re taking a look back at a watch that was launched in 2011. There are some watches that are well worth revisiting at a later date.
Say hello to the Schofield Signalman GMT PR watch.
If you’re not familiar with this British watch brand (English to be precise), the Schofield Watch Company is the brainchild of Sussex based watch designer Giles Ellis. With his background in graphic and product design, Ellis produces watches that haven’t been created simply to be fashionable; instead he creates watches that he himself would be happy to wear, which is what independent watch making should be all about, right?
The Signalman GMT PR is one of the brand’s debut timepieces and is also available in a DLC version. The watch is said to be the result of more than 400 man hours and is made up of parts from more than 30 different suppliers.
It’s 44mm stainless steel case includes big bold lugs which certainly help to give the watch a substantial presence. Whilst not strictly speaking a divers watch, it is still water resistant to 500m and also includes an anti reflective sapphire crystal.
The Signalman refers to a lighthouse and if you flip the watch over, you’ll find the case back has been engraved with a picture of Smeaton’s Tower.
Taking a closer look at the dial, you’ll see that it appears on two levels, with the higher outer level displaying the minute scale, hour markers and numerals, whilst the lower level central part of the dial displays a novel power reserve indicator and GMT sub dial. There is also a date window at 3 o’clock.
The watch is driven by an automatic Swiss Soprod 9335 movement, with 31 jewels and which beats at a steady 28,800vph. Originally limited to 300 pieces, new orders for the watch should be available from the end of May 2013. £3550 inc VAT
