Radical Engineering from Carbon8 Watches

We’ve featured a number of up and coming watch brands on Click Tempus just recently and it never ceases to amaze how many new watch brands seem to pop up out of nowhere and produce some really impressive timepieces.

Take a look at Swiss watch makers, Carbon8, as a case in point.

Founded in 2010 by Janos Palinkas and Tamas Szabados, the owners combine their passion for exotic sports cars and luxurious timepieces to create a series of super cool watches for both men and women.

Whilst Carbon8 watches take a great deal of inspiration from the world of Motorsport, their appeal stretches much further than that of an avid petrol head. Containing modified Swiss ETA movements and crafted from such materials as stainless steel and carbon fibre, Carbon8 watches could well help you discover your racing spirit.

Currently, Carbon8 watches are only available to purchase from Carbon8 directly or via selected retailers in Italy and Australia, however, plans are afoot to expand to several other countries over the next year.

Carbon8 Open Engine

The red hands of the Carbon8 Open Engine watch help to give the timepiece a distinctly ‘sporty’ feel and remain one of the brand’s most popular collections. The watch features a CC No.1s manual winding mechanical movement based on an ETA 6497, which is complete with the C8 logo and is visible through the watch’s dial. The movement beats at 18,000vph and has a power reserve of 42hrs. It also contains 17 jewels.

The case is crafted from 18k solid gold, measuring 47mm in diameter and is water resistant to 100 metres. The dial of the Carbon8 Open Engine features a mineral crystal just 0.4mm thick, with carbon fibre numbers and indexes. All in all, a pretty tasty timepiece!

Carbon8 Racing Spirit Chronograph

The Carbon8 Racing Spirit Chrongraph watch is driven by a modified automatic winding mechanical movement based on the ETA 7750. The watch has a 42hr power reserve, with 25 jewels, offering 28,800vph.

The dial is made from carbon fibre, as are the indexes and numbers. The Carbon8 logo plate and shield are made from 18k solid gold.

Measuring 47mm in diameter, the watch is available in a choice of stainless steel or 18k solid gold.

Carbon8 Racing Spirit GS41

The ladies Carbon8 Racing Spirit GS41 was launched in the early part of 2013. The watch measures 41mm in diameter and features a 0.4mm mineral crystal. The movement is a modified version of the ETA 6497 that has a 42hr power reserve and beats at 18,000vph.  The watch displays hours and minutes with a small seconds hand found at the position of 9 o’clock.

The Carbon8 Racing Spirit GS41 also features a blackened main plate that has been partially cut away to reveal the movement inside, which helps to give the watch a particularly distinctive look.

Carbon8 Rally Pack Stopwatch

Here is an interesting idea – the Rally Pack is a stopwatch that can be worn on the wrist and attached to any of the Carbon8 timepieces. This optional extra features a hand winding mechanical movement that includes 17 jewels. The stopwatch displays 60 seconds around the main dial, with an additional 30 minutes sub dial displayed just below the position of 60 seconds.

The case measures 47mm in diameter and is made from either 18k solid gold or stainless steel.
