Mid-priced mechanicals: Tissot Heritage Navigator 160th Anniversary

Mid-priced mechanicals is a new series following on from You Probably Can’t Afford It, an exploration of superlative high-end watches, which was followed by You Probably Can Afford It, a lingering look at affordably priced watches.

This new series will explore the middle ground of quality automatic and mechanical watches, and it encompasses a wide arena of fine timepieces from some of the most well-known watch brands, be they Swiss, European or American.

The mid-priced mechanical starts at around £1000 and caters to the collector who wants to invest in quality and a watch which not just tells the time, but creates an enviable talking point.

We begin the series with a new special edition from Tissot.

Tissot celebrates its 160th Anniversary with a piece first created for Tissot’s centenary in 1953, which reflects its love for new horizons. The Tissot Heritage Navigator is the ultimate traveller’s watch. It portrays vintage class, allowing the wearer to be right on time, no matter what the location around the globe, with its automatic chronometer precision, officially certified by COSC (Contrôle official Suisse des Chronomètres) and its multiple time zones.

The watch can even take into consideration the time differences when organising important conference calls from different parts of the world. Once you have chosen and set the watch to the country of your choice, that time zone will be indicated by the numbers on the bezel. In order to find out the time of any of the other of the 23 countries, simply take a look at the time indicated by the minute track on the dial in front of its Capital. This watch is the perfect illustration of what the company stands for with its essence of tradition and that touch of innovation. Tissot has always aimed to provide its consumers with indispensable tools of precision, and after 160 years, this watch shows that it is still the case today.

The Heritage Navigator 160th Anniversary is priced at £1,090 in steel (for both silver and black dials) and £5,450 for the solid 18k gold limited edition.
