Cor Blimey Friday is an occasional series that looks at watches that are edgy, quirky and decidedly different. No other site does quirky quite like Tokyoflash. It’s brimming with watches for those who love to read time in the most unconventional way possible. Not content with a simple three hander with Arabic numerals, Tokyoflash fans love to decipher time the way the boffins of Bletchley Park eventually cracked the Enigma code in World War II – with difficulty.
Kisai Intoxicated Watch

As drinking and driving is one of the dumbest things you can do, this handy new watch from Kisai can tell you whether or not you are on the right side of being legal and sober. Once you breathe into the side of the watch an LED backlight reacts and turns green if you are sober, yellow if you are over the limit, and red if you are just plain sloshed. It also displays your BAC percentage. Made from stainless steel, the watch features an adjustable band and a USB rechargeable battery. Of course it also tells the time with a large digital read out. Intoxicated also has a sobriety game built in. When activated, a line on the screen moves from left to right. Hit the button and stop the line dead centre to win, stop it either side and you’re less than sober. The watch, which could just save you from a lifetime of regret, costs $100.00
Kisai Keisan Silver

If you prefer your watches to look and perform in a wholly unconventional way, check out the Kisai Keisan. A raised convex bubble lens with optical technology precisely engineered to diffuse the advanced low energy Japanese LEDs, creating a bright, magnified lighting effect.
Keisan is made from high grade aluminum to ensure a lightweight, comfortable feel on your wrist and is finished with a polished alumite coating that has a smooth, bright appearance, unlike any other material. An animation has been programmed into the LED module so that once every minute for 12 minutes after the time is displayed, the LEDs light up and moves in a sweeping formation from side to side. $99.00
Kisai Kaidoku

Kisai Kaidoku is a limited edition coloured LCD watch design that displays the time using words instead of numbers. Designed by 15 year old Canadian Tynan Mayhew, a fan of Tokyoflash watches, Kisai Kaidoku was originally a concept submitted by him to the Tokyoflash blog. Kaidoku means to decode or decipher in Japanese, but this watch needs no translation once you understand how it works. The time is displayed with words instead of numbers. Simply look at the words that are flashing and read them in order to know the time. It’s that easy. The date can be read in exactly the same way by pressing the lower button. So for example, the time on the watch pictured is 8:25pm. For night time reading, Kisai Kaidoku has an electroluminescent (EL) backlight function. Just press the upper button to illuminate the words.$129.00
