Based in Meyrin, Geneva, Peter Tanisman creates watches that combine high end refinement and jewellery with his love of watchmaking. The result of which is a range of luxurious timepieces that are not only innovative in design but that are more like fine horological pieces of art.
Admittedly, a Peter Tanisman watch isn’t exactly subtle. Its creations are pretty bold and will almost certainly catch the eye with just the slightest of glances. If you’re not one for jewels, precious stones and diamonds then a watch from Peter Tanisman probably won’t be what you’re looking for.
However, if you follow the ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ mantra, then stay tuned!
The history behind the Peter Tanisman watch brand starts with the man himself, who, born and raised in Turkey, comes from a long line of jewellers. From the age of 14, he followed in the footsteps of the generations before him by creating some of his first pieces of fine jewellery. The 1970’s saw Peter move to Geneva to continue his work as a jeweller, combining it with his other passion, watch making. Over the next 30 years he would set up his own workshop that would service some of the more established Swiss watch brands.
It wasn’t until 2008 when Peter Tanisman began developing his own collection of watches, which were officially launched at Baselworld 2010. Three years later and following the success of his ladies collection, most notablythe Classics and High Jewellery range, the brand is set to release a range of men’s watches at Baselworld 2013, which will no doubt be covered on Click Tempus nearer the time.
Peter Tanisman Carrousel Watch
The Peter Tanisman Carrousel watch was one of the brand’s first creations and gives a good indication of what to expect from the other timepieces in its High Jewellery collection. The rotating cylinder or ‘carrousel’ is a signature of the brand. The watch contains a staggering 552 diamonds (12.76 carats), is crafted from 18k white gold and measures 50 x 35mm.
The watch is water resistant to 50 metres and is powered by a mechanical self winding ETA calibre 2004-1 movement that beats at 28,800 vph and has a 40hr power reserve.
The white mother of pearl dial features 11 diamond hour markers, with a date window at the position of 6 o’clock. The watch is then finished with a black leather alligator strap that includes a gem set 18k white gold pin buckle.
With all these diamonds, gems and white gold, you can expect the Peter Tanisman Fantasia 1001 Nights to cost well over £75,000.
Peter Tanisman Fantasia Porpora Watch
Launched in 2011, this was another of the early models showcased at Baselworld 2010. The Peter Tanisman Fantasia Porpora watch is entirely hand made and features a white gold case that measures 41mm in diameter. The case includes a stunning bezel that really sparkles thanks to its 161 baguette diamonds, which weigh in at around 10.86 carats.
The dial shows a ‘7 rivers’ design that includes rubies and white diamonds which totals 0.29 carats and 0.36 carats respectively. More diamonds and rubies can be found on the watch’s cylindrical carousel which is comprised of seven very distinctive rings.
The watch is driven by an E01.701 quartz movement and is completed by a white satin strap that is fastened by an 18k white gold buckle that includes 178 diamonds, totaling 1.51 carats.
Peter Tanisman Black Attitude Carrousel Watch
Taken from the Classic collection, the Peter Tanisman Black Attitude Carrousel watch (model no C1P11256) is a nice alternative to the two models featured above and while it isn’t nearly as striking, its subtlety almost certainly helps to add to its appeal.
The Attitude Carrousel watch features a black sunburst guilloche dial that is brought to life by silver toned hour and minute markers. In addition, the watch features a luminous carrousel at 6 o’clock that includes 2 diamonds, weighing in at 0.07 carats.
The watch is driven by the same quartz ETA 01.701 movement as the Fantasia Popora watch, above, which is housed inside a black PVD coated stainless steel case that measures 41 x 30mm.
The Peter Tanisman Black Attitude Carrousel is then completed with a black satin lined leather red strap with steel pin buckle, that helps to give the watch distinctly feminine finish.
Peter Tanisman Graphica Men’s Watch
The Peter Tanisman Graphica Men’s watch (model no G1R34060) is set to be officially launched at this years Baselworld. The watch is made from 18k red gold and includes 224 brilliant cut diamonds on the bezel and case, which weigh 2.38 carats. It also has an open case back where the watch’s Swiss ETA mechanical movement is visible.
The Graphica men’s watch has an interesting two level dial that is distinctly engraved with the Cotes de Geneve pattern. Displaying hours and minutes, the watch also features a small seconds dial at the position of 6 o’clock.
