You Probably Can Afford It: David Mason DM1A Oversized Pilot’s Watch

In our YPCAI (You Probably Can’t Afford It) series we normally take great pleasure showcasing a series of watches that are simply out of reach to all but the big City bonus boys, disgraced bankers, Premier league footballers and of course Jonathan Ross, who is considering buying recently bankrupted HMV.

So as a change we thought we would highlight a watch you probably can afford, even if you have to save up for a couple of months to buy it. And what’s more it’s proudly made in Britain.

DM1A and DM1B Oversized Pilot’s Watch

David Mason DM1A Gents Oversized Pilot's Watch

David Mason, of David Mason Watches makes a handsome looking oversized pilot’s watch, one with a black dial, the other silvered. The company was founded in 2011 with the guiding principle to use only the best materials worked by the most skilled craftsman. And the asking price for the DM1A and DM1B? A mere £160.00.

Engraved caseback

The 46mm watches run on a Ronda Quartz 515 24 hour, 3 hand Swiss movement, the same movement favoured by Invicta for many of its models. The case back bears its own hand engraved serial number, and the steel buckle has an engraved logo. There’s also an additional 24 hour ring and red hand with separate crown so as to set a home town time when you’re overseas.

DM1A Buckle

Is the watch any good? Well, a customer from Bishop’s Stortford, who has owned some high end watches including Breitling, Panerai and Hamilton seems to think so. In fact he puts the DM1A on par. He went on to comment:

Weight:- it feels heavy enough to feel expensive but it’s not so much that it becomes a hindrance by the end of the day (my Hamilton does this) granted that is automatic but never the less it’s still very heavy.

The watch face is clean, and highly legible as a pilot’s watch should be, and the hands are super luminous.

The word is slowly getting out there about David Mason Watches and the DM1A and DM1B deserve kudos for being refreshingly affordable. Both watches are purchasable exclusively from the site.
